The Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation was first incepted on April 04, 1997. It was then known as Association of Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation under their first president, Ouknha Othasman Hassan and Ouknha Haji Kamaruddin Yusof as the patron and advisor. It was formed during the time when the Muslim community was at the greatest risk of despair and destruction.
As you might already know, this is the time when Cambodia was still locked in the insecurity turmoil. The organization draws its memberships from Muslims from all classes irrespective of social standing, political affiliation or sect, including all the Cambodian Muslims outside the country.
If you are new to this foundation, it assembles patriotic, Islam loving, peaceful, democratic people who want to participate voluntarily in helping the Muslims in Cambodia towards reducing poverty, achieving prosperity, happiness and harmony as well as contribute to the royal Government of Cambodia. The foundation also works towards ensuring protecting the legal and peace interests of the Islamic followers in Cambodia while ensuring there is compliance to the state law and constitution.
As a foundation, the Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation helps in gathering opinions and ideas from Muslims and presents them to various competent institutions for considerations. Through this way, it acts as a voice of the Cambodian Muslims. Furthermore, it fosters mutual existence, communication, friendship and cooperation between Muslims, Islamic followers, Buddhists and people of other religions that are in Cambodia and its neighboring countries.
Some of the objectives of the Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation include bettering the economic livelihood and development of Muslims in Cambodia, accepting Zakat payment and Sadaqah in accordance to the procedures set by the organization and always ensuring members of the organization act in accordance to the constitution and laws of Cambodia.
Furthermore, the Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation helps in dissemination of da’wah in accordance to Sunnah and Quran to help foster understanding and appreciation of Islam amongst Islamic followers and the public. The final objective of the Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation is organizing religious, social and education institutions that ensure religious, physical and intellectual well-beings of the Cambodian Muslims and the public.
In terms of its organization structure, some of the important organs that make up the Cambodian Muslim Development Foundation include the Supreme Council Committee, the High Honorable Presidency, the Council Committee and the Central Committee. All these organs work together in ensuring the organization achieves its objectives and mission.
